A Fresh Start

When I first got to Ft. Jackson it was about 10 o'clock at night, fresh out of the civilian world, it wasn't too bad, than we got our first experience of an NCO(Non-Commissioned-Officer). It wasn't a pretty experience for some people, I already new that this would be a fun experience for me and my battle buddies. Peolpe were already pushing, quite funny, of course I wasn't. It was called reception, not actually Basic Combat Training. A week there was one of the most boring things I have actually done. No pt at all time went by really slow, I thought it would be like that the whole time we were going to be there. The day came, we packed up all of our shit and shipped out to Basic Combat Training. That's when the real fun started for us, the second we got off the bus they started yelling, I was scared to death, honestly I didn't think I would like it. If you even looked around moved your eyes or your head they were right in your face yelling, telling you to start pushing. Happened to quite a few people, but not to me, never really got yelled at too much, maybe once or twice, but nothing big. Got into our classroom, that was when I knew I was going to like this place. We got to know our DS's a little better which helped because they are pretty laid back. BCT was a lot of fun for me, got to work out, taught me when to be serious and when I could have fun. A lot of physical work actually, not like the movies where they are constantly yelling, only for like the first 2 weeks that happened but only because they wanted us to start thinking like soldiers and not like civilians. It wasn't that hot there, it was hot a couple of days, but not too much. Got to AIT, its pretty good, liking the passes but thats all i got for right now. New cell phone number is 804-481-0243, so give me a call when you like, leave me a voicemail, i have class from 0830-1800, so i will call you when i get back from class and i have classes Monday-Friday so I use my phone on the weekends mostly. But I love all of you guys and hope to hear from ya soon, this blogspot is a new thing for me so hopefullt i can keep up with it weekly.

Hey Joe - Go to "Customize", click on "Add a page element", then you will see many elements you can add. I chose "Link List". Once you click on it, it will bring you to a page that will allow you to configure your list. Type in your header that will show on the blog, put the website (http://www.thegulliverfamily.blogspot.com) where it asks for the URL and then you can type whatever you want in the "New Site Name" box and that's what will show up on your blog. Hope this helps and am really glad that you started the blog. Let me know if you want some pictures of you being a soldier and where to email them to!!! We love you - xoxox

Joe,

I hope you're enjoying your time. Remember to have the best attitude and work hard. It will get you far. Also - Know Your Stuff. That's really the key. Do more studying in order to know your stuff. This is called "Depth of Knowledge," as you progress through the ranks, you gain breadth or knowledge. For now, stick to going deep and learning all you can about your specialty. Also, don't be afraid to take your buddies along with you learning your stuff - you're not an island, you're part of a team.

Cheers - Dan Mosqueda

Joe,

I am so proud of you. It was a great time when we were down to see you. I miss you always. Everytime I hear a car driving by with their music cranking I think "There's Joe" but it's not. Looking forward to having you home for a couple weeks. We will have a get together sometime in August. You are now on to the next journey of your life. Enjoy and give it all you have.

I Love You,

Mom
XOXO (with a few tears)
